Meeting a delegation from Bhutanese media on November 28, 2007 was a pleasant surprise. The delegation was in India to study election reporting.
I was told their media is catching up with the time. But for this, the Himalayan Kingdom will have to first open up.
The Land of the Thunder Dragon, as it is called, Bhutan lies in the eastern Himalayas bordered north by China and on all other sides by India. Why is this country then still not influenced either by Indian democracy or Chinese communism? It should be a matter of discussion.
Perhaps its very high mountains, valleys and thick forests do not allow it to free itself from monarchy, with unwritten constitution.
However, one thing is sure – the people of Bhutan are very beautiful and shy.
